About

In the valleys of northern Bohemia, poetically called Crystal Valley, the craft of shaping crystal by hand has continued, largely unbroken, for centuries. The Europäischer Hof project carries that lineage into the present, reinterpreted for a new setting, a new era.

Commissioned by DK Studio GmbH, Preciosa crafted a bespoke installation built on the Pearl Drop® Signature Design. It’s conceived not simply to hang within Europäischer Hof, but to thread through the hotel's historic and contemporary wings alike, echoing the calm, restorative character of Baden-Baden itself.
Pearl Drop takes its cue from a 17th-century pearl necklace, translated into cascades of crystal. It reimagines one of the earliest pearl-inspired chandeliers created in Bohemia, demonstrating how timeless beauty can be continually rediscovered through contemporary design.

Baden-Baden is home to both one of the earliest known Czech chandeliers and one of our newest creations. What connects them is more than geography. The historic chandelier drew inspiration from strands of pearls, and centuries later, that same idea reappears in a contemporary form at Hotel Europäischer Hof. To me, it is a reminder that while design languages evolve, truly powerful ideas continue to illuminate new generations.

Location

Europäischer Hof

Baden-Baden is one of Europe's most celebrated spa towns, its reputation for restoration made official by its place among the UNESCO Great Spa Towns of Europe. At its center now stands the Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof, a hotel whose own story began on this site in 1930, marking the start of the Steigenberger brand itself. A transformation completed in 2025 united four historic listed buildings and a new contemporary addition, through architectural interventions by DK Studio GmbH, into a five-star property that opens a new chapter without asking the building to forget its old ones.
